Goomeri and surrounding areas

Well, a new day, new surroundings! We moved on from our free camp to Goomeri Showgrounds. Situated somewhere between Toowoomba and Marybourough in the region of South Burnett. Facilities here are basic but generally clean and we have a powered site with water, toilets and showers for $15 per night. A group of bikers from the Northern Rivers in NSW shared the grounds with us last evening - a mature, well behaved and respectful bunch. The local hotel has reasonably priced quality meals and their own label of wines served across the bar (not particularly suited to our pallets though).
Today we unhitched the 5th Wheeler and went for a leisurely drive out to Kinbombi Falls, an isolated and tranquil place with basic facilities being tank water, toilets and fire pits. To visit the falls, you must walk down 229 stairs where you reach an escarpment that only the young and fit would traverse. Dicky knee said not me today! What goes down must come back up - you guessed it, 229 stairs! Great workout! Now off to Kilkavan to check it out, very historic and quaint but not a lot to see, lays claim to 150 years of settlement pre 1998. We also visited the Bjelke-Peterson Dam off Kilcoy Road. What a spectacular site to camp, great facilties, well groomed and delightful outlook. A busy place because of this so if you are searching for tranquility, maybe this is one to be avoided as an overnight stay?
