60 kilometers on from Proserpine is Bowen. Spectacular beaches, extra wide roads throughout town and brilliant weather to greet our arrival. We arrived on the weekend of the Townsville V8 car racing being advised that Townsville is a place to avoid for the next few days as it is full of race goers and no room to move. Just as well I guess as Bowen appears to be a place worth exploring! Great views within a 7 minute drive to the top of Flagstaff Hill with 360 degree picture postcard - I don't think the photos do it justice. Another lookout with a steep climb is Horseshoe Bay. Worth the look and effort to reach the top! The rocky outcrops that decorate the shores are very different to any I have seen before.
Bowen is the town that replaced Darwin in the Bas Luhrmann movie "Australia" with Nichole Kidman & Hugh Jackman. The photo of the Pub which follows was the centerpiece to the movie.
