Ok, now we are back online we will play a little catch up!

After Paronella Park we traveled further north to Cairns. Everybody visits the Skyrail coupled with the Kuranda Scenic Railways. We took the rail up the mountain in historic old carriages with crafted wood work made from Silky Oak. The journey upward and onward was slow and scenic carving it's way through 15 tunnels, 37 bridges and numerous bends in the track where many of the original English and European migrants died in it's construction and duly buried beneath the railway tracks.

Whilst at the summit we had 4 hours to utilize which we spent having a pub lunch and did some market shopping whilst listening to the haunting echos of many indigenous didgeridoos. Next onto the Baron river cruise which is a feeder to one old and one more modern hydro-electric plants.Once again surrounded by huge rain forest timbers. On the river we saw climbing turtles perched high on fallen logs (they are refuted to climb like this to allow their shells to dry to avoid algae growth). A little further on we saw 2 fresh water crocodiles - each about 2 meters long sunning themselves on another fallen log, then a third out on a muddy bank.

Finished with the cruise, it was time to head back down the mountain on the Skyrail. This is a 2 part journey through the canopy of the rain forest requiring a change of gondola about half way down the cable way. All in all a great day even though that was the morning we discovered our camera gear stolen. Deb did a great job of the photos on her phone even with the restricted capability of the phone camera.
