Peak Hill

Peak Hill is a gold mining town about 48 kilometers north of Parkes. Visitors are admitted free of charge to the open cut mines, originally opened in 1889 and closed to mining in 2012. On a self guided tour taking about 30 minutes you get to see all 5 enormous open cut mines, a maze of mine shafts appearing to be bottomless and abundant wildlife. A great place to visit with ample room to pull up in the carpark when towing a van. Deb and I would endorse this place to anyone with average or better fitness wanting to see something a little different. The Parkes information and visitors centre advised that the mine will be reopened in the near future.
